# When someone holds power of attorney

## What we need from attorneys, how signing works, and how we keep the family informed.

If you hold power of attorney for someone, you can work with us on their behalf. Most of our aged care clients are adult children acting under power of attorney. We need a certified copy of the power of attorney, and certified ID for each attorney who signs.

### What we need

- A certified copy of every page of the power of attorney, financial and medical if you have both
- Certified ID for each attorney who will sign, and for the person you act for
- Your contact details, so we can keep you in the loop

### Getting it certified

Our adviser can certify it from photos you send, or you can take it to a Justice of the Peace or another approved person. See "Getting your ID certified". If a solicitor holds the original, we can ask them for a certified copy using a letter of authority.

### How signing works

- You sign by DocuSign, showing that you're signing as attorney.
- If the power of attorney says attorneys must act together, every attorney signs. We wait until all have signed, and tell you if anything is holding things up.
- Authorities signed under a power of attorney go to each institution with a certified copy attached.

### What we check

We read the power of attorney before we act, including any conflict clause. That's the part that says whether an attorney may make decisions that also benefit them or their family, such as gifts.

### Keeping the family informed

Bring anyone who helps with decisions to your meetings. We keep everyone in the loop, on one number and one inbox. Tell us who should receive our emails: we can send them to a family member or attorney, and we confirm any change with you first.
