Choosing an aged care home: what we do and don't do
You choose the home, and we look after the financial side and the paperwork.
You and your family choose the aged care home. We never choose it for you. We look after the financial side and the paperwork, and if you'd like help choosing, we can introduce you to a placement consultant.
What we do
- Ask the home for its resident agreement and fee schedule, using your letter of authority
- Model the ways to pay for accommodation: a refundable accommodation deposit (RAD), a daily accommodation payment (DAP) or a mix, and what each means for your cash flow
- Look at whether to keep, rent or sell the family home, and when
- Lodge the aged care income and assets assessment with Centrelink, and send it to the home with a copy to you
- Check the agreement before you sign it
- Help arrange the RAD payment, then check the first invoice line by line
- Deal with the home's finance team, so you don't have to
What we don't do
- Choose the home for you. A placement consultant can help you find the right one.
- Give legal advice. If the agreement or the family needs a lawyer, we can introduce one.
We don't pay or receive referral fees. Any introduction we make is based only on your needs.
Timing
Choose at your own pace. Tell us the home's name and the likely entry date as soon as you know, so the paperwork is ready in time.
For anything about paying for care from your own money, talk to your adviser.
