Paying the RAD and checking the home's invoices

How to pay a refundable accommodation deposit safely, and how we check the home's invoices.

You pay the RAD (refundable accommodation deposit) to the aged care home by bank transfer or bank cheque. We send you the home's payment details and the steps. Afterwards, forward us the home's first invoice and we check it.

Before you pay

  • Whether to pay a RAD, a DAP (daily accommodation payment) or a mix is part of your advice.
  • Homes usually wait for Centrelink's assessment before they take the RAD. We send the assessment to the home for you.
  • We ask the home for its payment details in writing, and send them to you.

Two ways to pay

  • Bank transfer: usually the home's preferred way. For a large amount, it's often easiest to arrange it at your bank branch, using the details we send you. The bank may charge a small fee.
  • Bank cheque: ask your bank for a bank cheque for the amount, made out to the home, and drop it in to the home.

Not sure about the details? Text us before you pay. If anyone emails you new bank details for the home, check with us before you pay anything.

Drawing the DAP from the RAD

If your advice includes drawing the DAP from the RAD, we can ask the home to set it up for you.

Checking the home's invoices

Forward us the home's first invoice when it arrives. We check it against the assessment and the fees we expect, and let you know it's right. If a later invoice looks wrong, send that to us too. If something is wrong, we take it up with the home.

For anything about paying for care from your own money, talk to your adviser.
