Telling Centrelink when things change

Tell us when something changes. We work out what Centrelink needs, lodge the update and tell you what we lodged.

When something changes, tell us straight away. As your nominee, we work out what Centrelink needs to know, lodge the update for you and tell you what we lodged. You don't sign updates.

Changes that matter

  • Money coming in or going out, such as an inheritance, a gift to family, a large purchase, or an account opened or closed
  • Selling or buying property, including the family home. See Selling the family home.
  • Moving into aged care or a retirement village
  • Someone moving in or out, or a change in your relationship
  • A death in the household. See When someone passes away.

Not sure whether something matters? Tell us anyway.

How to tell us

Text or email us a line, or forward the letter, contract or statement. No covering note needed.

What we do

  1. Work out what Centrelink needs, and gather the evidence, such as a settlement statement.
  2. If it would reduce or stop a payment, tell you before we lodge it.
  3. Lodge the update as your nominee, and follow up until Centrelink confirms it.
  4. Tell you what we lodged and what changed.

When we put your advice in place, we update Centrelink ourselves, so you don't need to report that.

Time limits

For the Age Pension and the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Centrelink asks to be told about changes within 14 days. Telling us straight away gives us time to get it right.

Ongoing service and the Concierge

On ongoing service, we do this while you're with us. On the Concierge, we do it for your 12 months, and after that on ongoing service, Foundations or Centrelink care. Before our nominee arrangement is in place, or after a clean finish, you tell Centrelink yourself.

If a letter mentions a debt or an overpayment, see A letter has arrived from Centrelink, a fund or the home.
