Family members and attorneys: working with us together

How family members and attorneys can be involved, who we can speak with, and who receives our emails and invoices.

Many of the people we work with are families: adult children helping a parent, often as their attorney. We're set up for that, with one team, one number and one inbox for the whole family.

Who we can speak with

Your affairs are private, so we discuss them only with you, with an attorney acting under your power of attorney, and with people you've told us we can speak with. That protects you, and it's what privacy law expects. Tell us who's helping and who else to keep in the loop, on "Before we meet" or any time. For what we need from attorneys, see When someone holds power of attorney.

Joining meetings

Anyone who helps with decisions is welcome at your meetings. They can join with the same Zoom link, from wherever they are. If you're a couple, it helps if you both come.

Emails and invoices

Every household has a main contact, who receives our emails and invoices. That can be a family member or an attorney. To change it, tell us, and we confirm the change with you first.

Doing the paperwork for a parent

An attorney can fill in "Before we meet", do the fact find session and sign documents as attorney. Each attorney who signs needs certified ID, which most people do from home. See Getting your ID certified.

Your own money, too

If you're an attorney for one of our families, the Family Money Review looks at your own money and retirement, usually after a parent has passed away, with any inheritance in the picture. There's no charge for it. See The Family Money Review.
